SONO is an audiovisual project that brings tattoos to life by using Augmented Reality to track our movements and interact with our body, effectively turning our tattoos into real instruments that create music. Each tattoo triggers a custom set of sounds and frequencies which can be modified in real time depending on our body movements. This way, for each tattoo, the user creates a personalised soundscape.
SONO allows up to three users to interact simultaneously, creating a common sound with specific harmonies to encourage creative collaboration. Final interactions are recorded and archived in a shared library where participants can revisit their performances as well as getting inspired by others in the community.
We wanted to create a new way to experience sound. So we asked ourselves: What if you can create music with your tattoo? And wouldn’t it be fun if you can collaborate with others to make music?SONO is an audiovisual experience that plays with body movements, augmented Reality, sounds, and tattoos.

We wanted to create a new way to experience sound. So we asked ourselves:
What if you can create music with your tattoo?
And wouldn’t it be fun if you can collaborate with others to make music? SONO is an audiovisual experience that plays with body movements, augmented Reality, sounds, and tattoos.
The user can choose between 3 different tattoos that will give one starting sound pattern. The visual gives an idea on what sound the tattoo starts with. (High, medium, low). We relate the sound to elements (wind, water, earth) that have a relation to the place that we are, Barcelona.
After choosing the tattoo and deciding where to place it on the body, the user can start playing. We can influence the sound by parameters (LOF, frequency rate, pitch) related to movements (swipe over arm, distance, rotate). All tattoos have the same parameters to play with, but the range of the parameters will be different. Each of the 3 tattoos represents a different wave (sine, square, saw). The user can record the sound that was created and loop it afterwards, in order to create a new sound pattern with overlying sounds.
